Merchants or town officials display their nice costumes during the parade of the Provins medieval festival. Notice that the costumes are not 100% authentic (unless there were actually sunglasses in the middle ages)
In the 14th century, merchants were very important for the town as Provins hosted the 'foires de Champagne', one of the major commercial markets east of Paris. They were taking place in May and September. Other important markets took place in the whole region in towns such as Troyes, Reims, Bar sur Aube. All these towns including Provins took great benefit of the foires that gave them a lot of activity several times a year.
