Trianon is the name of a village which Louis XIV purchased and then had demolished in order to build a house suitable to take small meals outside of the castle main building and its strict protocol. Both of the Trianons are thus distant from the castle.
The Grand Trianon is, according to the words of the king "a little palace of marble and porphyry with delightful gardens".
