As most castles, this one has been built in several stages. The first castle was built in the 13th century, but most of the features of the present one date back from the 14th century. The 39m keep (the closest tower on the photo) was originally defended by two drawbridges, but only the outside one still exists.
In the 19th century, the castle was mostly a ruin, but from 1970 on and especially in the 80s, extensive rebuilding projects were carried out.
