| Rambouillet is one of the former royal properties that surround Paris. It has a nice castle, built in 1375 and constantly modified since then. The area surrounding the town was originally devoted to forestry and hunting. Rambouillet also had an experimental farm devoted to the breeding of merinos sheep (it is now a museum). The castle, now one of the presidential residences, has a large park which is open to public. Rambouillet is still surrounded by a large forest, where boar and deer are said to be common. They can be seen more easily in a large (180 ha) enclosure called the Espace Rambouillet. |
