| This castle dates back from the 17th century and was built for Nicolas Fouquet, who was then superintendant of finances of Louis XIV. It was one of the first projects that saw the collaboration of architect Le Vau, landscape gardener le Nôtre and decorator Le Brun. But Fouquet had been a bit too ambitious with this castle that displayed his wealth and was imprisoned by Louis the XIV after a fête that took place in 1661. The king later hired the team of Artists that had built Vaux to design, what would be a much larger project: Versailles |
