| Located in eastern Calvados, Beaumont en Auge is a village built at the top of a 90m hill, hence its name. This area was occupied since the Celts that had built a road going to the coast. The present road going from Lisieux to Dives through Beaumont already existed by roman times. The village has a large church: Saint Sauveur that was built around 850 and a monastery, built in 1060 by the Duke of Normandy, Robert Bertran. The village was later occupied by the british and a military academy was set up in it. It was suppressed during th French revolution and only its buildings remain. |
