The original passerelle Solferino was built in that place and named after a Napoleon 3 Victory of 1859. It was destroyed in 1961 as it had been damaged by collision with barges and replaced by a provisional footbridge.
The current passerelle is very recent as it was built in 1998. Part of it is made of Ipé, a tropical wood which use has caused much turmoil in environmental organisations who would have preferred to have it built in oak.
The footbridge has only one arch and is quite elegant, but a bit unstable. People walking on the bridge cause vibrations and it is quite hard to take photos from it with a tripod.
