The Assemblée Nationale hosts the French Parliament, but it is also a place where cultural exhibitions take place. When I took this photo, giant photographs of Marianne were displayed on its facade.
Marianne is the symbol of the French Republic, it personifies freedom and reason. Marianne statues are present in every French town halls. They are sculpted using famous French women as models. The current one is Evelyne Thomas and the previous one was Laetitia Casta.
This display at the Assemblée Nationale showed modern Mariannes personified by young women from poor neighbourhoods.
