The quai des Orfèvres is called this way as it was the place of choice for goldsmiths and jewellers from the 17th century on. It was totally rebuilt during the 19th century.
This superb building is the headquarters of the Paris Police force, also called the conciergerie. It is normally not lit at night, so I had to wait for a bateau mouche to pass by and take advantage of its projectors to get some light on the building itself. The four people on the quay show that this photo was taken on a warm summer night.
