| The Trocadero palace was built for the 1878 world fait. It was a fairly large building with an original architecture, which was used to host a museum. It was destroyed in 1937, for yet another world fair. I would have been very curious to see the original building that looks quite interesting on old postcards. The current building, called the Palais de Chaillot and its esplanade look very much like the architecture seen in german cities in the late thirties. It basically kept both of the original building aisles, with a large square between and before them. The Trocadero offers a very nice view of the Eiffel Tower and Ecole Militaire, especially at night. The famous photo of Adolf Hitler visiting Paris in 1940 and including the Eiffel tower in the background was taken on the top of its stairs. |
