The ossuary is an essential component of a parish close. As the nearby cemetaries were generally limited in space, bodies had to be exhumed within five years to leave space for new ones and the remains were in turn moved to the ossuary. This custom only stopped in the 19th century.
This ossuary is the one of Sizun, remarkable by its sculpted charachters. The ones on the upper part are probably the 12 apostles. A small museum is now installed in this building.
