Paths such as this one were created along part of the coast of Brittany to prevent smuggling. Today, they are not used anymore by the customs, but in many places they are still maintained and used by walkers.
As elsewhere in France, private property cannot extand to the sea, and these paths remain open along most of the gulf of Morbihan.
