There are forts everywhere along the coast of Charentes. The English fleet must have been very active in order to prompt the construction of so many different fortifications.
This one is fort Enet, located just in front of the Aix island. The photo was taken from the Fort de la Rade and thus the two of them are in front of each other, probably distant of less than a mile.
