In the 70s, a series of artificial lakes was created in an area 150 km east of Paris. Their main purpose was to avoid floods in the river Seine by storing excess waters from its tributaries. In the process, thousands of trees like this one were chopped down. As you can see, in Fall the lakes are almost empty, but the water level generally rises during the winter.
